GERMAN LANGUAGE
German is spoken primarily in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, together with Liechtenstein , and other European German-speaking communities in Italy, in the East Cantons of Belgium, Luxembourg, some border villages of the former South Jutland County of Denmark and portions of Alsace, France.
The United States has the largest concentration of German speakers outside of Europe. German speakers in the United States are found mostly in Pennsylvania, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Texas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Louisiana and Oklahoma. In the US, early twentieth century immigration was often to St. Louis, Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.
